Stuffing our brains!

Tuesday was planned with a couple of big stops, so we started out wandering in Nottingham and fueling up, first granola and coffee, followed by scones. Dessert after breakfast? Now that could really catch on.

Westminster Abbey was an experience to remember. There is so much history contained within the walls, so many influential souls resting above and below the floor. There are chapels, memorials, simple stones, enormous crypts. It is the most beautiful building I've ever seen: ornate ceilings, floors, stained glass, leaded glass... wow.

Audio guides were really helpful explaining some of the main features and giving background of how the Abbey has worked at different points in history. (Steve wrestling with his guide, below.)

The Abbey holds so much of England: early monarchs, royal family, clergy, political figures, influential scholars and writers... burials range from Edward the Confessor in 1066 to just a few years ago.

We left a candle burning for GPat.

On our way to the National Gallery, we walked around Churchill Square and over to the Houses of Parliament. We even meandered by 10 Downing Street, but they didn't seem keen on visitors so moved along.

Russ and Kerri are on the tail end of their trip and had their fill of art in Amsterdam and Paris so they headed off in search of other interesting sights While we made our way to the National Gallery with our limited knowledge of art. We stuffed our brains again with all we could hold. Highlights were seeing one of Van Gogh's Sunflowers portraits, Monet's Water Lilies, serval Picasso, and an unfinished Michelangelo.

We caught back up with Russ and Kerri to finish up our day and London adventure with "take-away" from Harrod's cafe. Then we tried hard for a "nice" picture. Happy anniversary officially to Russ and Kerri! Glad we were delayed and could celebrate all together, playing in London.

Next stop Edinburgh!
