Strolling the streets of London

Not so much strolling as running, dodging, and mashing to keep up with our guide, Emily, who would make a pretty decent running back. Monday we signed up for a walking tour to see the Changing of the Guard in process, and Emily marched us along to see the guards and other sights along the way.

We started at St. James Palace, originally commissioned by Henry VIII for Anne Boleyn. Though she never lived there, Henry VIII and his subsequent wives did. Today it is an apartment building, mostly for members of the royal family. The Changing of the Guard ceremony happens concurrently here, at Wellington Barracks, and at Buckingham Palace.

When the troop turned off toward Wellington Barracks we dashed across the Mall and on to the Palace where we waited for the band to bring in the new guard.

We broke off from the tour and ran down to Clarence House to get a closer-up view of some of the guards heading to their posts.

Steve was so inspired, he practiced his guard stance.

And Russ found another street sign. They love him here!

We wandered along the streets and found the fancy shopping area. So we scooted out of there and in search of lunch.

Steve and I headed off to the London Eye. It was easily the most crowed of anywhere we've been. And even with advance tickets, we had to "join the queue" but we moved through quickly, and the views from the top were truly stunning.

Ah, London, you are gorgeous!
