The plan

For years we've talked about going on a European adventure, and we thought our 25th wedding anniversary would be the perfect time to treat ourselves. We narrowed down where we most wanted to go and settled on England and Scotland. On our anniversary in December of 2019, we bought our tickets and began to plan our epic adventure!

Whomp. Whomp.

As COVID-19 spread throughout the world, we wondered and worried, deciding in April 2020 it would be neither safe nor possible to make the trip. In 2021 we were vaccinated and hopeful... In 2022 we traveled stateside and watched the surges... As we adjusted to the new strange but livable world, we began to think it might be possible again... Three years after our first try, on our 28th anniversary, we bought our tickets again, crossing fingers and toes. And, knock on wood, it looks like our 25th anniversary trip is finally happening! (Just a few years late.)

The plan:

June 12, 2023 Depart PDX for London Heathrow.

We'll arrive in London midday on June 13th and stumble our way to Paddington Station to board a train to the Cotswolds.

June 13-17 We'll stay in Moreton-in-Marsh and explore villages via public busses and our feet. We plan to enjoy afternoon tea, raise an ale in a 15th century pub, and wander along country lanes.

June 17-21 We'll take a train back to London where we'll stay near Hyde Park. We have four jam-packed days planned, and we'll meet up with the other Sparks, who will be on their actual 25th anniversary trip.

June 21-23 We will travel via rail to Edinburgh. After a day and a half of sightseeing we will pick up a car and do our best to stay on the other side of the road.

June 23-28 We will set off on a road trip to see castles, countryside, and coos. We'll start off by heading north, then across the Highlands, over to Isle of Skye, back down through Fort William, landing in Glasgow.

June 28-30 We will return the car and move our feet through the city of Glasgow.

June 30 Depart Glasgow and return home to the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

We'll be posting pictures and highlights here. Come along with us!
